Why Surfers Love Sushi: From Ocean Beach Waves to Nagisa Sushi

Ocean Beach has always been a surfer's town.

Long before Nagisa Sushi opened its doors, one of our founders, Masa, spent countless mornings surfing near the Ocean Beach Pier. The rhythm of the ocean, the local community, and the culture of Ocean Beach helped shape the spirit of Nagisa.

Interestingly, surfers and sushi have a lot in common.

Both are centered around simplicity, respect for nature, and appreciation for quality.

After hours in the water, surfers often seek food that is fresh, clean, and nourishing. Sushi provides high-quality protein, healthy fats, and natural ingredients without feeling heavy.

Our New Break Roll was inspired by one of the local surf breaks that shaped our family's connection to the ocean. It was created by Masa's son, Miru, as a tribute to the waves and culture that continue to inspire us today.

For us, sushi is more than food. It's part of a coastal lifestyle that connects Ocean Beach, Point Loma, and the Pacific Ocean.
